Delgado at 90: Culinary Arts Adds Flavor to Delgado’s Varied Programs of Study

Chef J.H. Breland’s 1947 book became an indispensable guide for commercial chefs.

Only a handful of programs that were offered at Delgado 90 years ago are still in existence today. Architecture is one program that has stood the test of time. Another is the very popular Culinary Arts program.

Beginning with Chef John Henry Breland, one of the first teachers of culinary arts at Delgado in the 1920s, the Delgado program’s students, faculty and graduates have made significant contributions to their field.

Learn much more about Culinary Arts in a new post on Delgado’s 90th Anniversary blog: http://www.delgado90.blogspot.com/. The blog presents an ongoing series of stories about the history of Delgado, beginning before its opening in 1921 and continuing through the present day.

Events, issues and people from Delgado’s past and present are spotlighted along with reflections on New Orleans and national history and culture during the past 90 years. Archival pictures illustrate each story.

The blog format gives readers a forum to add their own views about a topic. Comments are welcome!

Delgado faculty and staff who would like to participate in creating this chronicle of Delgado’s history are asked to contact Carol Gniady, executive director of Public Relations and Marketing, at 671-5498 or cgniad@dcc.edu.
